Sika's history starts with a huge construction project: the electrification of the Gotthard railway tunnel. For this once-in-alifetime event, the company, which was established in 1910, was able to demonstrate its competence for the very first time by taking part in a construction program of international importance: with a completely new type of mortar for sealing and for protection against the ingress of water. Since being established by Kaspar Winkler, Sika has become a globally operating company offering specialty chemicals for the construction and industry sector.
